I have a Chinese elm that I received about a week ago. I repotted it this weekend and I noticed that when I repotted it, it was kinda starting to lighten up a bit...lighter green. I repotted it and soaked the new soil real good. Now it looks real bad. In just two days it is turning real gray. Looks like it is just drying up. If I had to guess (and I don't know) I would guess that the tree may have gotten sunburned. Accidentally left it in a spot where it was fully exposed to light all day one day....but I don't know.
Anyone have any tips that I can try in effort to save this tree?

Leaves turned color or the trunk and branches? Did you repot it while it was in leaf? Jerry Whitefish Montana USA Zone 4-5 www.bonsaihunk.us

Trunk is still the same color as when I got it. Just the leaves are turning gray. It was full of leaves when I received it and there appeared to be a little new growth on the plant but it was minimal.
I will post a pic in a few minutes.

Those leaves do look like they were burned. Keep the tree properly watered and keep your fingers crossed. It may just bounce back in a few weeks. Do not fertilize until the tree is growing leaves. Good luck. Jerry Meislik www.bonsaihunk.usWhitefish Montana USA USDA zone 4-5

Your right on it Jerry. I brought it to one of the local bonsai place before I got your response and that is exactly what he told me. I had two Chinese Elms that were on the end of a shelf one of them got enough sun to sun burn all of the leaves and the other got enough sun to burn exactly the left half of the plant. Anyway as of today, almost every old leaf has completely died and almost of them have fallen off of the tree. So far i have about 20 or so new little green leaves starting to grow back, so it looks like I might be lucky enough that the tree might make it.
Lesson learned, it's not the first and surely won't be the last.
Thanks once again for the info. Brock
