Well I re-potted my Too Little Ficus today!
Went by the tip from Jerry's site.
www.bonsaihunk.us/ficusforum/FicusTechniques/FigTechnique8.htmlHere are the pics I promised as to what I did.
#1
prepared the pot with some kinda masonry screen I found from work.
Things in the trash come in handy!
Wired in with some aluminum wielding wire.
#2
Used some crushed shale for bottom layer of drainage.
Used about a 1/2in or lil more. (3in deep pot)
#3
Raked all the soil from roots with some paint brush handles...close to chop sticks.
Gave the roots a good washing in cool not cold water.
Then came the root crop!
And what a mess of thick roots it was!!
Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
Used a Xacto Saw from my model car building days.
Front and rear shots of the roots.
#4
After the final cut.
I did cut a lil more than pictured but not much!
For insurance I took all the "Cut off areas" and applied some root hormone powder to stimulate new growth.
#5
Wired tree into pot with same wire as fore mentioned.
Took the original potting soil I raked from the root and mixed with some new Miracle Grow Potting Soil that has Phosphorus for stimulating root growth.
Also mixed in just a tad of shredded pine mulch.
Tamped it all in good with my sticks.
Gave the soil a good soaking and that's where I'm at now.
