I have two Golden Maples planted last May 13 in upstate NY which were growing at nursery above ground beyond wooden crate. The trees were planted in well draining area and approx. 6-8 inches up. They looked in great health throughout last Summer and Fall. We had a very tough Winter so when Spring finally came the trees partially leafed out. What leafs that did come out were really nice and better/larger than last year. A yard worker noticed the trunks were covered up with dirt and thought this could create root girdling so we scratched down around base to notice thick fibrous fine roots around base and densely around surface area. I didn't think of removing this top dirt when planting. I went down about 6inches to find first real base flare. As you can see in picture roots are find and meshy all around surface area My additional pictures will follow Attachments:

I hope that the plants are alright. You just need to plant more grass around the trees so that it would look more attractive. You also need to put more outdoor decorations like pots and some flowers.
