Here is a ficus I bought about two years ago. It has come a long way from when I bought it. It was a $10 Wal-Mart "Malsai". I'm trying to turn it into something worth while in my eyes. I'm going to turn it into a Banyan style. I have the branch structure started. I plan on potting it into a much shallower wider oval tray style pot. this way there will be plenty of room for the new roots to grow down. I have a new leader training up to add a little taper into the pretty much one thickness trunk above the exposed roots. I'm working on the taper and new leader mainly for the next pad. I plan on making a smaller pad above what there already is in training. This way once the whole foliage mass widens it will be more rounded up top . I will try to find some of the older photos I have of it to show you how much has been done since the day I bought it .

What do you think?

UPDATE:
Here is the oldest photo I have of the tree. It is the summer after I bought the tree. When I got the tree it had very little foliage, here is the tree growing out. I went through several style ideas before I chose the Banyan. It had an ugly stump and some ruff cuts on the trunk that needed to be cleaned up. I waited until I was sure the tree was in good health after I bought it to do any work to it. After it had grown out well and was showing good health I chopped the trunk back to a branch I trained up into a new leader. I cleaned the nasty ruff scars up so they will heal over properly now.
