Hello Everyone
I am about to start some air layering on a Red Japanese Maple that I have.. Does anyone have any tips.
Couple of the questions that I have are:
1. How long do you guys and gals think that I will have to leave the moist wrap on until it develops enough roots to cut it off? 2. Should I completely shave the bark off under the moist wrap or just kinda scar it in a few places under the moist wrap? 3. Should I use any type of root stim. on it?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated Thanks Brock

Cut a ring around the area at least twice as wide as the diameter of the branch (so if the branch is 1" thick make the cut 2" wide etc.), dust it with hormone. Then put on the moist sphagnum, keep it moist and wait. It should take around 6 weeks, I would wait about 8 or 9 weeks before I removed it though just to make sure it's roots are strong. If you do everything right it should take with no problems . Here is a link about it in depth.. www.bonsai4me.com/AdvTech/ATLayering.html-$h@rK
